1:72 Scale.  Length: 7.4”.  Wingspan: 9"

Limited Edition of 1200 Models Worldwide

Built at de Havilland’s Hatfield, England factory in May 1943, Mosquito #HJ711 was assigned to 169 Squadron, then based at Little Snoring in Norfolk. Engaged in both defensive night patrols and offensive night sweeps over Germany the squadron had radar equipped Mosquito NFIIs, the first night fighter variant of the Mosquito.

It was on a night intruder sortie that Squadron Leader J.A.H Cooper scored 169 Squadron’s first kill, the downing of a Bf 110. Following just three months of RAF service the aircraft was struck off charge and scrapped.

In the 1970s the surviving cockpit section fell into the hands of aviation enthusiast Tony Agar, who started restoring it in his garage. When the aircraft outgrew this space it was completed at the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington where it can be seen today, a breath-taking memorial to the brave men who flew by night over occupied Europe.

The de Havilland Mosquito was a British two-seat multi-role combat aircraft that served with the Royal Air Force during World War II and postwar era. When the Mosquito entered production in 1941, it was one of the fastest operational aircraft in the world. It was originally conceived as an unarmed fast bomber, but was adapted to other roles during the war, including: intruder, day or night fighter, fighter-bomber, low to medium altitude daytime tactical bomber, high-altitude night bomber, maritime strike aircraft and high-speed photo-reconnaissance aircraft. The Mosquito’s lightweight wood construction and powerful Merlin engines gave it exceptional performance.

The Corgi Aviation Archive features a wide selection of high quality, ready-made diecast model airplanes. Each model is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, using specifications of the original aircraft. Corgi models are built with diecast metal and some plastic components.
