Avro Lancaster W4964, 'Still Going Strong!', is one of the most famous Lancaster bombers. Not only did the aircraft complete over 100 missions, she also played a crucial role in the aerial raid against the German battleship Tirpitiz. While taking part in 'Operation Paravane', W4964 helped in disabling the Tirpitiz, which made it an easier target during the aerial bombing raid 'Operation Catechism' on November 12, 1944 that sunk the ship.
Throughout World War II the Lancaster was involved in a number of daring and historic bombing raids. From the breaching of the dams during Operation Chastise to the battles over Berlin and Hamburg, the Lancaster was at the forefront of many Allied campaigns. It was also instrumental in the sinking of the battleship Tirpitz which, at the time, was the pride of the German Navy.
