Lightning F.6 XR770 first flew in 1966 and famously appeared at the Farnborough Airshow that same year wearing Royal Saudi Air Force colors, where it flew ten demonstration flights. In the years to follow, this aircraft went on to serve with No. 74 and No. 56 Squadrons, before ending its service life with No. 5 Squadron at RAF Binbrook. Lightning XR770 is now preserved at RAF Waddington, wearing distinctive RAF No. 5 Squadron red spine and tail colors.
The BAC Lightning F.6 was an improved, longer range variant of the F.3 and was one of the final versions of this iconic aircraft. Noted for its exceptional speed and weapons carrying capability, the Lightning will always be remembered as a spectacular and potent interceptor; defending the RAF’s airspace against Soviet intrusions throughout the height of the Cold War.
The Corgi Aviation Archive features a wide selection of high quality, ready-made, diecast model airplanes. Each model is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, using specifications of the original aircraft. Corgi models are built with diecast metal and some plastic components.
