In late 2010 the 1st Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade along with 4 other units deployed to Afghanistan in support of “Operation Enduring Freedom XI”. These units were spread to various locations throughout the country with the 1-10 Aviation going to Base Salerno, Khost Province Afghanistan as Task Force “Tigershark”. The Boeing AH-64 Apaches were tasked with security and reconnaissance mission over eastern Afghanistan. The AH-64 Apache is a twin-engine attack helicopter operated by the U.S. Army and the military forces of several other countries. Originally developed by Hughes Helicopters in the 1970s as a replacement for the Bell AH-1 Cobra, the Apache is now built by Boeing. The YAH-64 prototype was first flown on September 30, 1975, with the production model entering service in 1986. The AH-64 has served in conflicts in Panama, the Persian Gulf, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq. Over 2,000 have been produced to date in several variants.
