Elbert Scott McCuskey (1915–1997) was a World War II U.S. Navy fighter ace. He participated in the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway, for which he was awarded two Navy Crosses, one for each battle. By the end of the war, he was credited with 13 1/2 aerial victories.
The F4F Wildcat was a carrier-based fighter that began service with the U.S. Navy and Britain's Fleet Air Arm in 1940. The F4F would become the primary carrier fighter for the first year and a half of the U.S. Navy's involvement in WWII in the Pacific. The Navy retired the Wildcat in 1945.
