P-51 Mustang 42-106908 is considered to be the personal aircraft of Lt. Leonard Reeves of the 530th FS, 311th FG, based at Pungchacheng, China in 1944–1945. Around the end of January 1945 Lt. Reeves was part of two missions to Peking with the second mission resulting in severe damage to the tail of 42-106908. Due to the extent of the damage to the aircraft Lt. Reeves was assigned another P-51. Sometime during the time that 42-106908 was flown by Reeves he had named the aircraft “My Dallas Darlin”.
The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang was a single-seat World War II fighter aircraft. First flown on October 26, 1940, the P-51 was designed and built in just 117 days. It flew most of its missions as a bomber escort in raids over Germany, helping ensure Allied air superiority from 1944. As well as being economical to produce, the P-51 was a fast and durable aircraft.
