1:48 Scale. Length: 8". Wingspan: 9.25"
Robin Olds completed his first tour of duty in WWII on November 9, 1944. He was credited with 6 aerial victories in 270 hours of combat flying. On January 15, 1945 Olds returned to England and became Operations Manager of the 434th FS and on February 9, 1945 he was promoted to Major. On April 13, 1945 Major Olds was flying P-51 Mustang “Scat VI” No. 411746, along with four other P-51s, making strafing runs on a German test site. Due to the extreme flak Olds was the only pilot to make it out but without his right flap and two large sections of the wing. Instead of bailing out he somehow managed to return to his home base and land the P-51. But, Scat VI was so badly damaged it was beyond repair. After WWII Robin Olds had 24.5 victories of which 13 were aerial. Robin Olds was credited with four more victories during the Vietnam War.
The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang was a single-seat World War II fighter aircraft. First flown on October 26, 1940, the P-51 was designed and built in just 117 days. It flew most of its missions as a bomber escort in raids over Germany, helping ensure Allied air superiority from 1944. As well as being economical to produce, the P-51 was a fast and durable aircraft.
