The 479th Fighter Group was formed in October of 1943. In 1944 the group was sent to England and consisted of the 434th, 435th and 436th Fighter Squadrons. By October 1, 1944 the group had converted from the P-38 Lightning to the P-51D Mustang. On October 7, 1944 Arthur Jeffrey of the 434th FS became an Ace. He added three victories in a single day on December 5, 1944 and again on December 23rd. He was also the first pilot to shoot down a German Me163 rocket powered aircraft. Jeffrey flew 82 combat missions during World War II and was credited with 14 aerial victories. He had named his previous aircraft, a P-38 Lightning, “Boomerang” and because the P-51 was smaller than the Lightning he added “Jr.” to the name. Jeffrey also used the name “Boomerang Jr.” on his next aircraft, a P-51K Mustang.

The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang was a single-seat World War II fighter aircraft. First flown on October 26, 1940, the P-51 was designed and built in just 117 days. It flew most of its missions as a bomber escort in raids over Germany, helping ensure Allied air superiority from 1944. As well as being economical to produce, the P-51 was a fast and durable aircraft.

Hobby Master offers a wide selection of quality, pre-assembled, diecast model airplanes. Each model is crafted to a high level of accuracy using specifications of the original aircraft. They are constructed with precision-made diecast metal and some plastic components.
