Stab III formed in 1940 and consisted of 7./JG2, 8./JG2 and 9./JG2. The Gruppenkommandeure from November 1, 1942 until July 1943 was Hptm Egon Mayer. 8./JG2 was located at Brest from April 1942 - November 9, 1942 and Brest-Guipavas from November 22 1942 until approximately February 1943. 8./JG 2 was tasked with defense of the western section of occupied France. The red wolf emblem of 8./JG 2 was applied to left side cowling and the 8 victories Eisele scored up to January 1943 are marked on the rudder.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was a German single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Luftwaffe during World War II. The prototype was first flown on June 1, 1939 and production deliveries began in late 1941. The Fw 190 proved to be suitable for a wide variety of roles, including; air superiority fighter, strike fighter and ground attack. From 1941 to 1945, over 20,000 Fw 190s were built.
