Fighting Squadron 7 (VF-7) “Blue Burglar Wasps” was established on July 1, 1939 and in late 1940 was re-designated VF-72 “Fighting Wasps” aboard the USS Wasp. On March 29, 1943 the squadron was deactivated. When VF-7 was first established they were equipped with Grumman F3F aircraft which they flew until 1940 when they received the Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat.
Produced in the mid to late 1930s the F3F-1, as well as the F3F-2 and F3F-3 variants, belonged to what probably was the most colorful era in U.S. military aviation history. Grumman took all the lessons learned from the F2F and incorporated them into the F3F. “The Flying Barrel”, as it was commonly called, had a wide fuselage to accommodate the large radial engine spinning a three bladed Hamilton Standard propeller. The F3F also had improved retractable landing gear and a longer fuselage that improved stability. The last F3F was retired by the USN in November 1943.
Hobby Master offers a wide selection of quality, pre-assembled, diecast model airplanes. Each model is crafted to a high level of accuracy using specifications of the original aircraft. They are constructed with precision-made diecast metal and some plastic components.
