Germany operates the second largest fleet of Eurofighters that they call the Eurofighter or the EF-2000, with no reference to the name Typhoon. Originally designated as an air-to-air aircraft the Eurofighter is being developed into a multi-role aircraft. These aircraft are assigned to four Tactical Air Wings, 31, 71, 73 and 74. In 2019 three of these squadrons sent EF2000s to RIAT 2019 at RAF Fairford, UK with EF-2000 31+17 c/n 178/AS010 from TaktLwG 31 at Norvenich Air Base, Germany, representing this unit.
The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine multi-role fighter built by a European consortium made up of the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Italy. The development of the Eurofighter began in 1983 with the first flight of the prototype occurring on March 27, 1994. The first fully equipped Tranche 2 Instrumented Production Aircraft (IPA7) took to the skies on January 16, 2008.
