In 1989 the Polish Air Force began to receive former German Mig-29As. Later in 2003 and 2004 they received eighteen Mig-29As. Among them was MiG-29A 29+14 that is now stationed at the 22nd Tactical Aviation Base and assigned to the 41st Tactical Squadron with serial no. 4120. In 2018 4120 was painted to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Polish Air Force. On top of the fuselage is a portrait of Józef Piłsudski while on the vertical stabilizers portraits of Stefan Bastyr and Janusz de Beaurain, the first to perform a Polish combat flight together.
The MiG-29 is a fourth generation twin-engine supersonic air superiority jet fighter developed in the Soviet Union in the 1970s. The aircraft entered service with the Soviet Air Force in 1983 and still is in use with them as well as equipping over twenty four other countries over the years. The NATO designation for the MiG-29 is Fulcrum and it was designed to counter the American F-16 and F-18. The MiG-29 was first seen in the West in 1986.
