Lockheed Martin F-117A 88-0842 was C/N A.4067 and the 58th F-117 to be manufactured. The aircraft’s maiden flight took place on March 13, 1990 and was accepted by the USAF on March 28, 1990. In December 1990 F-117A 88-0842, named “Its Hammertime”, arrived in Saudi Arabia with the 416 TFS where it completed 33 missions. Later assigned to the 49th FW, 8th FS “Black Sheep”, #88-0842 completed 23 missions during Operation Allied Force and 9 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. On January 29, 2008 “It’s Hammertime” was retired.
The F-117 Nighthawk is a twin-engine attack aircraft built by Lockheed for the U.S Air Force and the first operational military aircraft designed using stealth technology. The F-117 was first flown on June 18, 1981 and achieved initial operating capability in 1983. F-117’s took part in the 1991 Gulf War and Operation Allied Force in Yugoslavia, where one was downed by a surface-to-air missile (SAM) on March 27, 1999. It was the only Nighthawk lost in combat. The F-117 was also used during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2001 and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Of the 64 F-117s built, 59 were production versions. The U.S. Air Force retired the F-117 in 2008.
