Four Su-35 Flanker E’s from the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association plant in Russia arrived at the PLAAF Cangzhou-Cangxian Flight Test and Training Center on Christmas Day 2016. The FTTC is responsible for developing flying procedures, combat techniques and training programs for new aircraft. The Su-35s eventually will be based at Suixi AB with the 6th Brigade, former 6th Air Regiment, 2nd Division and with the PLAAF Su-35 capability of airborne refueling they should be able to provide long-range fighter-escort for the Xian H-6K bombers around the South China Sea.

The Sukhoi Su-35S Flanker E is a highly modified and improved derivative of the Su-27. In the 1980s modifications were made to the Su-27 also referred to as Su-35. About 20 years later a heavily modified member of the Flanker family was produced and given the title Su-35S Flanker E. Considered by many to be the most capable fourth generation fighter in the sky and equipped with many fifth generation technologies. This probably will be the last of the Flanker family when the fifth generation Russian aircraft arrive.
