“Operation Inherent Resolve” began in Syria and Iraq on August 8, 2014 with the objective of military intervention to eliminate the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIL). USN VFA-103 “Jolly Rogers” was deployed onboard the USS Harry S. Truman (CVW-7) from November 2015 until July 2016 in support of “OIR”. During their time there VFA-103 launched 490 Precision Guided Missiles making them the most lethal squadron in CVW-7. As of August 2017 the Coalition of 12 countries completed 24,566 strikes in support of “OIR”.

The McDonnell Douglas Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet is a twin-engine multi-role carrier-based aircraft. The “E” variant is single-seater while the “F” variant is a tandem-seat configuration. The E is a much larger, more advanced and more capable variant of the F/A-18C. The Super Hornet variant can carry a larger array of weapons as well as more of them and is capable of returning to the carrier while still carrying unspent munitions. The first flight of the F/A-18E took place in 1995 with delivery to the U.S. Navy starting in 1999.
