Description

Hobby Master 1:72 Air Power Series Diecast Model

North American Aviation RA-5C (A-5) Vigilante 156624, Reconnaissance Attack Squadron Six (RVAH-6), USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63), U.S. Navy, 1971

1:72 Scale.  Length: 12.75".  Wingspan: 8.8"

North American Aviation RA-5C #156624 was one of the last Vigilantes to be manufactured and was accepted by the US Navy in January 1970. The aircrafts first assignment was with RVAH-6 in 1970-71 aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63). RA-5C 156624 made its final flight in mid-1978 and is displayed at the National Naval Aviation Museum at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida wearing the markings of AJ-601 from its last cruise aboard the USS Nimitz.

The A-5 Vigilante was a carrier-based supersonic bomber designed and built by North American Aviation for the United States Navy as a replacement for the Douglas A-3 Skywarrior. First flown on August 31, 1958, the Vigilante entered operational service in June of 1961. However, its use in the nuclear strike role was very short. The aircraft was expensive and complex to operate and occupied a significant amount of flight deck and hanger deck space aboard aircraft carriers. The RA-5C, a variant of the A-5, saw extensive service during the Vietnam War as a reconnaissance aircraft starting in 1964.

Hobby Master offers a wide selection of quality, pre-assembled, diecast model airplanes. Each model is crafted to a high level of accuracy using specifications of the original aircraft. They are constructed with precision-made diecast metal and some plastic components.

This model of a RA-5C Vigilante features:

  • Opening cockpit canopy
  • Removable crew figures
  • Realistic panel lines
  • Historically accurate printed markings
  • Optional extended landing gear
  • Stand for 'in-flight' display
