The first operational USAF wing with the F-15 Eagle was the 1st Fighter Wing based at Langley AFB. F-15s were stationed at Langley from 1976 to 2005 when they were replaced by the F-22A Raptor. McDonnell Douglas F-15C Eagle 83-0017 was originally delivered to the 58th TFS /33rd TFW on August 1, 1984, but was transferred to the 71st FS “Ironmen”/1st FW at Langley AFB in October 1987. On June 11, 2007 while participating in a “Red Flag” exercise in Alaska; 83-0017 collided mid-air with an F-16C. The F-15 pilot ejected safely and the F-16C managed to land.
