During WW II the 48th Fighter Wing’s primary aircraft was the P-47 Thunderbolt so as the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landing was approaching it was only fitting that the 492nd FS/48th FW at RAF Lakenheath, England paint one of their aircraft. The 492nd FS/ 48th FW assisted D-Day operations by bombing bridges, railways and cutting off German supply lines. Lockheed F-15E Eagle 97-0291 received markings representing the black and white stripes worn by allied aircraft to distinguish them from German aircraft. 970219 wears 1 kill mark for downing an Iranian drone
