Hobby Master 1:72 Air Power Series Diecast Model
Canadair Sabre Mk.5 – Royal Canadian Air Force “Golden Hawks”, 1960
1:72 Scale. Length: 6". Wingspan: 6”
The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Golden Hawks aerobatic team was established in 1959 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the RCAF and the 50th (Golden) anniversary of Canadian flight. The team was equipped with the Canadair Sabre Mk.5, which they flew until 1961 when they switched to the Mk.6. Not only did they perform the standard loops and rolls in very tight formation, they also introduced their own trademark maneuvers that are still being used today by other aerobatic teams. Because of financial reasons, the Golden Hawks were disbanded on February 7, 1964, having performed a total of 317 shows. The legacy of the Golden Hawks lives on with the RCAF "Snowbirds" aerobatic demonstration team.
The F-86 Sabre was a transonic jet fighter aircraft. First flown in 1947, the F-86 entered service with the US Air Force in 1949. The Sabre is best known for its role in the Korean War, where it was pitted against the Soviet built MiG-15. In addition to its use in Korea, the F-86 Sabre also served in various stateside and overseas roles throughout the early part of the Cold War. It was by far the most-produced Western jet fighter with a total production, of all variants, of 9,860.
