Description

Hobby Master 1:72 Air Power Series Diecast Model

Douglas A-20G Boston (Havoc) – DU-P, A28-60, “Hilda Shane”, 22 Squadron, RAAF, New Guinea, 1944

1:72 Scale.  Length: 8".  Wingspan: 10.25”

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) received A-20G Boston DU-P (A28-60), ex 43-21545, in June 1944 and assigned the aircraft to No. 22 Squadron. The aircraft was given the artwork of a lady wearing a dress and the name “Hilda Shane”. On November 22, 1944, thirteen Bostons of No. 22 Squadron including DU-P were destroyed on the ground when Japan raided Morotai. The aircraft that weren’t destroyed were moved to Noemfoor and replaced with Beaufighters.

The A-20 Havoc was an American light bomber, attack and night fighter aircraft operated by the USAAF and Allied air forces during World War II. It was known as the Douglas Boston in Great Britain’s Royal Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force and as the DB-7 in Soviet and French Air Forces. The night fighter variant was designated P-70. The A-20 prototype was first flown in January 1939 with the first production aircraft flying on August 17, 1939. Although it was not the fastest or longest-range aircraft in its class, the A-20 Havoc/Boston/DB-7 distinguished itself as a tough and dependable combat aircraft. Production ran until September 1944, with 7,478 built in several variants (7,098 by Douglas and 380 by Boeing), almost half of which was delivered to the Soviet Union. The A-20 was retired by the U.S. Air Force in 1949.
