The Convair F-102 Delta Dagger was an interceptor aircraft built as part of the backbone of the U.S. Air Force’s air defenses in the late 1950s. Entering service in 1956, its main purpose was to intercept invading Soviet bombers. The F-102 was the first operational supersonic interceptor and Delta-wing fighter of the USAF. It had an internal weapons bay and could carry both guided missiles and rockets.
The official name for the Convair F-102 was "Delta Dagger", but it was commonly referred to as the “Deuce”. The F-102 was used in the Vietnam War for fighter patrols and bomber escort. A total of 889 had been built when production ended in 1958.
