Hobby Master 1:72 Air Power Series Diecast Model

Douglas A-1H Skyraider – “Lieutenant America”, 1st Lt. Randy Scott, 1st SOS “Hobos”, USAF, Nakhon Phanom RTAFB, Thailand, 1972 (Vietnam War)

1:72 Scale.  Length: 6.5".  Wingspan: 8.25"

Douglas A-1H Skyraider 139665 was delivered to the U.S. Navy in 1956. It served with the Navy until August 1967 when it was transferred to the U.S Air Force and re-painted in Southeast Asia camouflage. In 1972 this aircraft was flown by 1st Lt Randy Scott of the 1st SOS operating from Nakhom Phenom Royal Thai AFB in Thailand and named "Lieutenant America". In late 1972 the aircraft was transferred to the Vietnam Air Force (VNAF) and in 1975 during the fall of Saigon to North Vietnam military forces it was flown to Thailand by a VNAF pilot and abandoned. Over the years this A-1H had several owners until it was restored at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation.

The Douglas A-1 Skyraider originated as a carrier-based torpedo/dive bomber. Deliveries as the AD-1 to the U.S. Navy began in 1946 and in 1962 was renamed A-1. It was the first single-seat torpedo/dive bomber to serve with the Navy. The primary mission of the Skyraider was close air support for ground troops because of its heavy ordnance load and accuracy. The Skyraider had great success in Korea and Vietnam. There were 3,180 Skyraiders built in seven major models and 28 different versions.

Hobby Master offers a wide selection of quality, pre-assembled, diecast model airplanes. Each model is crafted to a high level of accuracy using specifications of the original aircraft. They are constructed with precision-made diecast metal and some plastic components.

This model of an A-1 Skyraider features:

  • Opening cockpit canopy
  • Removable pilot figure
  • Realistic panel lines
  • Historically accurate printed markings
  • Rotatable propeller
  • Detachable weapons
  • Display stand
