Lockheed F-22A Raptor #02-4040 “The Pride of Bay County” was delivered on March 22, 2005 and then in 2006 it was assigned to the 43rd FS “Hornets”, 325th FW located at Tyndale AFB in Florida. The 43rd FS received their first F-22 Raptors in 2003. The 43rd FS primary mission is to provide F-22 pilots with advanced air-dominance training. The squadron was organized in 1917 and saw combat in WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and formed part of the Alaskan Air Command during the Cold War.
The Lockheed Martin/ Boeing F-22 Raptor is a single seat, twin-engine fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It was designed as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities which include ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence roles. It is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All of these components contribute to the Raptor being a lightweight, extremely maneuverable extremely fast aircraft. The F-22 Raptor was first flown in September, 1997. The first production F-22 was delivered to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, on January 14, 2003.
