F-22A Raptor 05-4086’s first assignment was with the 94th FS at Langley AFB, Virginia. In 2007 the aircraft was on short-term loan to the 422nd TES (Test and Evaluation Squadron) at Nellis AFB before going to the 90th FS at Eielson AFB. 05-4086 then moved to the 7th FS at Holloman AFB. In 2014 05-4086 transferred to the 95th FS “Boneheads” at Tyndale AFB who in April 2016 sent F-22s to RAF Lakenheath England to train with other aircraft and display how quickly F-22s can be deployed worldwide. The F-22s returned to the U.S. in May 2016.
The Lockheed Martin/ Boeing F-22 Raptor is a single seat, twin-engine fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It was designed as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities which include ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence roles. It is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All of these components contribute to the Raptor being a lightweight, extremely maneuverable extremely fast aircraft. The F-22 Raptor was first flown in September, 1997. The first production F-22 was delivered to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, on January 14, 2003.
