Lockheed F-22 Raptor #04-4078 was delivered to the U.S. Air Force on August 31, 2006 and in January 2007 it was assigned to the 94th Fighter Squadron at Langley AFB, Virginia. When the 94th upgraded to newer F-22 block aircraft 04-4078 was sent to the 8th Fighter Squadron ‘Black Sheep’ at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. In July 2011 the 8th FS was disbanded and F-22 Raptor 04-4078 was assigned to the 7th Fighter Squadron, also at Holloman.
The Lockheed Martin/ Boeing F-22 Raptor is a single seat, twin-engine fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It was designed as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities which include ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence roles. It is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All of these components contribute to the Raptor being a lightweight, extremely maneuverable extremely fast aircraft. The F-22 Raptor was first flown in September, 1997. The first production F-22 was delivered to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, on January 14, 2003.
