F-22 Raptor, serial No. 05-088, was delivered to the US Air Force on February 23, 2007. In May 2007 it was assigned to the 90th FS, 3rd Wing, based at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska wearing the tail code AK. On June 2, 2008 No. 05-088 was reassigned to the 7th FS, 49th WG, Air Combat Command at Holloman AFB in New Mexico wearing tail code HO.
The Lockheed Martin/ Boeing F-22 Raptor is a single seat, twin-engine fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It was designed as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities which include ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence roles. It is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All of these components contribute to the Raptor being a lightweight, extremely maneuverable extremely fast aircraft. The F-22 Raptor was first flown in September, 1997. The first production F-22 was delivered to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, on January 14, 2003.
