Hobby Master 1:72 Air Power Series Diecast Model
Lockheed Martin / Boeing F-22 Raptor - 27th FS, 1st FW, USAF, Langley AFB, VA, 2005
1:72 Scale. Length: 10.25". Wingspan: 7.5"
In 2003, the U.S. Air Force 27th Fighter Squadron at Langley, AFB was announced as the first operational combat squadron to fly the Raptor. The first F-22A arrived in late 2004 and reached full operational capability in December of 2007.
The U.S. Air Force developed a requirement for a new air superiority fighter to replace the F-15 Eagle. Two proposals were submitted with the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor being selected as the new Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF). The aircraft is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All of these components contribute to the F-22 being a lightweight, extremely maneuverable and extremely fast aircraft that uses stealth technology. The Raptor has additional capabilities that include ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence roles. The F-22 Raptor was first flown in September 1997. The first production F-22 was delivered to Nellis AFB, Nevada on January 14, 2003.
