The Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service 931st Naval Air Group was established in February 1944 and assigned the designation KEB. Kushira Air Base on Okinawa began with the purpose of training pilots, navigators and ground crews. Later, with Japan losing the war, they resorted to Kamikaze attacks with Kushira becoming the third largest IJNAS Kamikaze base. In April 1945 B5N2 “Kate” KEB303 was assigned the task of Anti-Submarine Warfare and later assigned to a training unit that ended up saving the aircraft from the U.S. assault on Okinawa. 363 Japanese Kamikaze pilots from Okinawa were lost.

The Nakajima B5N (Allied code name “Kate”) was a carrier-based torpedo bomber operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. The B5N1 was first flown in January 1937 and entered service soon after with the designation Type 97 Carrier Attack Bomber. It had a crew of three and featured a low mono wing that folded for storage on an aircraft carrier and retractable landing gear. The B5N2 with a more powerful engine and various modifications began entering service in 1939. Although it was nearing obsolescence by 1941, the B5N was flown throughout the war, initially in front line service and later in secondary roles including training, target towing and anti-submarine warfare.

Hobby Master offers a wide selection of quality, pre-assembled, diecast model airplanes. Each model is crafted to a high level of accuracy using specifications of the original aircraft. They are constructed with precision-made diecast metal and some plastic components.
