Bullitt, released in 1968, is a classic film that starred Steve McQueen as San Francisco Police Lt. Frank Bullitt. This critically acclaimed action/suspense film is best remembered for the high speed car chase scene through the streets of San Francisco with Lt. Bullitt driving a 1968 Ford Mustang GT pursuing hitmen in a 1968 Dodge Charger. Two Mustangs' and two Chargers' were used in filming the chase scene. The Mustangs' engines, brakes and suspensions were heavily modified. The Chargers' engines were left largely unmodified, but the suspensions were slightly upgraded to cope with the demands of the stunt work.
