The Bluesmobile is a 1974 Dodge Monaco sedan that was featured in the 1980 film, The Blues Brothers. In the film, the Dodge is described as a used Mount Prospect police car that replaced a Cadillac, which Elwood Blues traded for a microphone. The film starred John Belushi as Jake Blues and Dan Aykroyd as Elwood Blues, two musicians who set off to reunite their blues band for a concert and raise $5,000 to pay the property tax on a Catholic boarding school where they were raised. Later, after a successful concert and with money in hand, Jake and Elwood are in a race against time, as well as the police and other enemies, to reach the tax assessor’s office and make the payment before the deadline.
The film used thirteen cars to depict the Bluesmobile, all of which were former police cars that were purchased from the California Highway Patrol and painted to look like ex-Mount Prospect patrol cars.
