The Green Hornet is a television series that aired on ABC during the 1966-1967 season. A total of 26 episodes were produced. The series starred Van Williams as the Green Hornet/Britt Reid and Bruce Lee as Kato. It followed the adventures of playboy-media mogul Britt Reid, the owner and publisher of The Daily Sentinel. As the Green Hornet, Britt fights crime with the help of his martial-artist partner Kato, Britt's valet, and his car the Black Beauty. The character originated as the star of a 1930s to 1950s radio series and had previously been adapted to movie serials and comic books.
One of the signature elements of the series was the sleek and powerful Black Beauty, a heavily modified sedan which bristled with high tech weapons and gadgetry. The Black Beauty was a 1966 Chrysler Imperial sedan, customized by Dean Jeffries at a cost of $50,000. Two cars were built for the show and both still exist today.
