USCSS Nostromo was a commercial towing vessel seen in the 1979 film Alien. Nostromo towed a massive automated refinery that was used for processing ore on the long trip from the planet Thedus to Earth. During their voyage, the crew was awakened from hypersleep by the onboard computer to investigate a warning signal from the moon LV-426, where they discover a new Alien species. The crew, captained by Arthur Dallas (Tom Skerritt), is ultimately overtaken and killed by the Xenomorph. Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) must destroy the Nostromo in a last-ditch effort to kill the Xenomorph that is loose aboard the vessel.
