Apollo 11 was the fifth human space flight of Project Apollo and the first manned lunar landing mission. Launched on July 16, 1969, it carried Mission Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin, Jr. On July 20, 1969, Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon while Collins orbited above in the command module. The Astronauts returned to Earth on July 24, 1969.
