Donald MacLaren joined the Royal Flying Corps in 1917 and received his pilot’s wings following initial training in his native Canada. He then travelled to England to enhance his flying technique before crossing over to France where he joined RFC 46 Squadron and flew the Sopwith Camel. MacLaren was the highest scoring Camel Ace of the First World War achieving 54 victories and recording 18 of these while flying Sopwith Camel D6418
The Sopwith Aviation Company produced the Camel F.1, a famous biplane of World War I. First flown in 1916, The Camel was the most successful fighter plane of the war and difficult to defeat when flown by a skilled pilot. Although highly maneuverable the Sopwith Camel was tricky to fly and more men lost their lives while learning to fly it than did during combat.
The Corgi Aviation Archive features a wide selection of high quality, ready-made, diecast model airplanes. Each model is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, using specifications of the original aircraft. Corgi models are built with diecast metal and some plastic components.
