The Shenyang J-15 is a Chinese single-seat, twin-engine, carrier-based fighter aircraft operated by the People's Liberation Army Naval Air Force (PLANAF). First flown on August 31, 2009, the J-15 is structurally based on the Soviet-designed Sukhoi Su-33 and fitted with domestically built radar, engines and weapons, as well as avionics from the J-11B. Chinese media announced on November 25, 2012 that two J-15s had made successful arrested landings on the aircraft carrier Liaoning. A two seat variant made its maiden flight on November 4, 2012.
