Hobby Master 1:48 Air Power Series Die-cast Model

Hawker Fury Mk.I - "K1930", Squadron Leader R.H. Hanmer, No. 43 Squadron, RAF, 1932

1:48 Scale.  Length: 6.75".  Wingspan: 7.5"

RAF No 43 squadron was formed in 1916 and disbanded in December 1919. It was reformed in July of 1923 at RAF Henlow equipped with Snipes. In 1926 the Squadron was re-equipped with new Gloster Gamecocks from which the squadron name Fighting Cocks originated. The 43rd began using black and white checkered markings around the same time. In 1928 the squadron switched to Armstrong Whitworth Siskins and in May 1931 they received the first Hawker Fury Mk.I's. In January 1932, at RAF Tangmere, R.H. Hanmer became their Squadron Leader.

The Hawker Fury was a British biplane fighter used by the Royal Air Force in the 1930s. It was originally named the Hornet and was the counterpart to the Hawker Hart light bomber. The Fury was a fast, agile aircraft and holds the distinction of being the RAFs first operational fighter able to exceed 200 mph in level flight. First flown on March 25, 1931, the Fury I entered service with No. 43 Squadron in May 1931. But, because of the Depression, only a small number of Fury Is were ordered, equipping two more squadrons. The Fury II entered service in 1937 and increased the total number of squadrons to six. The Fury remained in service with RAF Fighter Command until January 1939, by which time it had been largely replaced with Gloster Gladiators and other types, such as the Hawker Hurricane.
