In 2003, the U.S. Air Force 27th Fighter Squadron at Langley, AFB was announced as the first operational combat squadron to fly the Raptor. The first F-22A arrived in late 2004 and reached full operational capability in December of 2007.
The Lockheed Martin/Boeing F-22 Raptor is a single seat, twin-engine fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It was designed as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities which include ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence roles. It is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All of these components contribute to the Raptor being a lightweight, extremely maneuverable extremely fast aircraft. The F-22 Raptor was first flown in September 1997. The first production F-22 was delivered to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, on January 14, 2003
