Description Hobby Master Air Power Series Diecast Model
Douglas SBD-2 Dauntless - USMC, VMSB-232, Ewa Mooring Field (MCAS Ewa), Territory of Hawaii, December 7, 1941
1:72 scale. Length: 5.5". Wingspan: 6.75"
This model replicates one of two spare Dauntless dive-bombers assigned to US Marine Corps VMSB-232 - that, manned on the ground by Master Sergeant Emil Peters and Private William Turner, fired its rear Browning machine gun at Japanese dive bombers attacking Hawaii's Ewa Mooring Mast Field (MCAS Ewa) on December 7, 1941.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was the main dive bomber of the US Navy from mid 1940 to 1943, when it was supplanted, although not entirely replaced, by the SB2C Helldiver. The Dauntless was involved in combat from the first day of the Pacific War as SBD Dauntlesses stationed at Ewa Mooring Field in the Territory of Hawaii were caught in the Pearl Harbor attack
