The 302nd Fighter Squadron is an Associate Reserve Squadron that doesn’t own its aircraft but instead supplies pilots to the 90th and 525th Fighter Squadrons that belong to the 477th FG. In 2007 40 F-22 Raptors were assigned to Elmendorf AFB in Alaska with each squadron receiving 20 aircraft. This F-22 Raptor is the commander's aircraft and has 302nd FS markings.
The Lockheed Martin/ Boeing F-22 Raptor is a single seat, twin-engine fighter aircraft that uses Stealth technology. It was designed as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities which include ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence roles. It is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum, and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All of these components contribute to the Raptor being a lightweight, extremely maneuverable extremely fast aircraft. The F-22 Raptor was first flown in September, 1997. The first production F-22 was delivered to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, on January 14, 2003
