Executive Officer of legendary VF-17 "Jolly Rogers" in 1943-44, with whom he claimed nine kills over Bougainville, Roger Hedrick led VF-84 on its fateful combat cruise aboard the USS Bunker Hill from 1944-45. He claimed three kills in this Corsair on February 25, 1945 over the Japanese islands, taking his final score to 12.
First flown in May 1940, the Vought F4U Corsair was a carrier-capable fighter aircraft that saw service during World War II and the Korean War. It paired a lightweight fuselage with a powerful engine and large propeller. The Corsair served in some air forces until the 1960s, following the longest production run of any piston-engined fighter in U.S. history (1942–1952).
Corsairs served with the US Navy, US Marine Corps, the British Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm and Royal New Zealand Air Force, as well as the French Navy and other services. From the first delivery to the U.S. Navy in 1940, to final delivery in 1953 to the French, 12,571 Corsairs were manufactured by Vought, in 16 separate models
The Corgi Aviation Archive features a wide selection of high quality, ready-made, diecast model airplanes. Each model is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, using specifications of the original aircraft. Corgi models are built with diecast metal and some plastic components.
The models in the Corgi Aviation Archive series feature: realistic panel lines, a detailed cockpit with pilot figure, historically accurate markings and optional extended or retracted landing gear.
