Limited Edition

The C-47A-65-DL, Serial Number 42-100558 was built by the Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, California. It  was one of over 10,000 military variants of the  DC-3 produced by factories in the United States. Based at Membury Airfield in Berkshire, England from 1944, and given the nickname "Buzz Buggy", this C-47 Skytrain served with the 81st Troop Carrier Squadron, 436th Troop Carrier Group, USAAF, and  participated in the airborne assaults on Normandy, Southern France, Holland and Germany.

In 1950, after an illustrious career with the  U.S. Army Air Force, "Buzz Buggy" was transferred to the Uruguayan Air Force before being scrapped following an accident in 1959.

Developed from the Douglas DC-3 airliner, the C-47 military transport version served the USAAF in  a variety of roles including airlifting of  supplies and cargo, casualty evacuation, glider towing and perhaps most famously dropping U.S. and Allied paratroopers into combat. The C-47 had a reinforced metal floor, a large door for loading and upgraded landing gear. In the supply role, the C-47  carried up to 6000 pounds of equipment. As a paratroop aircraft in  WWII it was equipped with folding benches for 28 fully armed troops.

The Corgi Aviation Archive features a wide selection of high quality, ready-made, diecast model airplanes. Each model is crafted with meticulous attention to  detail, using specifications of the original aircraft. Corgi models are built with diecast metal and some plastic components.

The models in the Corgi Aviation Archive series feature: realistic panel lines, a detailed cockpit with pilot figure, historically accurate aircraft markings and landing gear with rubber tires. They can be displayed with the landing gear down or 'in flight' on the included stand.
